We're pleased to share that Stable Coin (SBC) has been spun out of Brale and is now operated by an independent company (Stable Coin Inc.) focused on one thing: making it easier for developers to embed stablecoins into their software applications.
Tools vs. yield
Over the last few years we've seen a incredible rise of stablecoins. They've taken many forms, but traditional, fiat-backed ones continue to have the most success. You've all seen a chart that looks like this:
Yield-bearing stablecoins have also grown significantly over the last couple of years. Companies like Superstate and Ondo have provided trusted onchain access to treasury yield as interest rates became meaningful again.
But what we haven't seen yet is developer-focused tools that subsidize the cost of stablecoin use, reduce time to market, and make it easier than ever to participate in a ecosystem where the investment is in the tools that make adoption easier. We believe the next phase of a stablecoin’s utility and differentiation will be tied to tooling and user experience.
Our company is not really a stablecoin company at all, or an issuer; we're a technology company that builds tools for SBC. We intend to make most of those tools open source so the broader ecosystem can benefit from them too.
Why SBC, and why not USD<something> ?
Since we’re focused on the technology of stablecoins, we want people to associate our ticker, SBC, with the company behind it, not just another form of a dollar. As we build our brand, we hope to stand out among a crowded landscape of USD<X> stablecoins. Eventually, we think the ticker is probably abstracted away from the experience.
What's with the eye logo?
Our contributors to SBC were inspired by a speaker diaphragm. As lovers of music, no matter how hard the speaker works it comes back to a resting point. That idea inspired the circular shape and the motion in the logo. Stablecoins have come and gone through a lot of different software configurations, but the good ones should always come back to that resting state of $1.
Where we're starting
While we build tools for SBC, our hope is to make it easier to developers to implement stablecoins and emerging use cases. The removal of gas fees from the experience for developers of all shapes and size is something we think is important, and we're spending a lot of time there initially.
Embracing a multi-chain world
SBC is already issued natively on several blockchains. With Brale as our issuing partner we have the flexibility to support new chains quickly. We’d love to be a resource for new chains that could use a native stablecoin to support early protocols and trading pairs. We’d love to hear from teams building new chains to see how we can support early efforts to get a new network off the ground.
If you'd like to work with a native stablecoin that takes care of all the gas fees for you, we'd love to chat about what you're building.
Thank you to the team at Brale for supporting our independent mission!
